What Are The Best Choices When at the Grocery Store?

Protein

Best sources of protein:

1st -Wild caught fish

2nd -Organic or grass-fed beef, bison, lamb, elk, venison,

3rd -Organic Eggs

4th –Organic Poultry – chicken, turkey, duck, pheasant

5th –Organic Pork,

6th –Organic Processed meats – bacon, sausage, deli meat

AVOID– factory farmed meats with sugar, MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) nitrates, sulfites or carrageenan

First choice for protein/meat will always be organic, but I know it is expensive and sometimes hard to find, just try your best.

 

Vegetables

Acorn Squash, Artichokes, Arugula, Beets, Bell Peppers, Bok Choy, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Butternut Squash, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Collard, Cucumber, Delicata Squash, Eggplant, Garlic, Green Beans, Jicama, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Onion/Shallot, Parsnips, Pumpkin, Radish, Sugar Snap Peas, Spaghetti Squash, Spinach, Summer Squash, Sweet Potatoes/Yams, Swiss Chard, Tomato, Turnip, Watercress, Zucchini

Fruits:

Apples, Apricots, Bananas, Blackberries, Blueberries, Cherries, Dates/Figs, Grapefruit, Grapes, Kiwi, Lemon/Limes, Mango, Melons, Nectarines, Oranges, Papaya, Peaches, Pears, Pineapple, Plum, Pomegranate, Raspberries, Strawberries, Tangerines, Watermelon

LIMIT: DRIED FRUIT

FATS:

Best cooking fats are: Clarified Butter, Ghee, Coconut Oil, and Extra-Virgin Olive Oil.

Best eating fats are: Avocado, Cashews, Coconut Butter, Coconut meat/flakes, coconut milk (canned), Hazelnuts, Macadamia Nuts, Macadamia Butter, Olives

Occasional fats: Almonds, almond butter, Brazil nuts, Pecans, pistachios

LIMIT: flax seeds, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, sunflower seed butter, walnuts
